Privacy Policy
This page explains what personal information Taolo collects through this website, why, and what rights you have over it under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Who we are
This website is operated by Anton Smit, trading as Taolo Tech (“we”, “us”), a sole proprietor providing managed IT services from Centurion, Gauteng, South Africa. For the purposes of POPIA, Anton Smit trading as Taolo Tech is the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy, and also acts as our information officer.
What personal information we collect
We collect personal information in two ways:
- When you submit our “Request an Assessment” form, we collect your name, business name, email address, and the answers you provide about your industry, number of users, current IT setup, and what you need help with, along with any additional message you choose to include.
- When you browse this website, Google Analytics automatically collects standard usage information such as your approximate location (derived from your IP address), device and browser type, the pages you view, and how you arrived at the site. This does not include your name or contact details.
Providing this information is voluntary. We cannot respond to an enquiry without your name, business name and email address, but you are free not to submit the form.
How we use your information
Information submitted through the assessment form is used solely to respond to your enquiry, understand your environment, and prepare a relevant reply or quote. We do not use it to send unsolicited marketing.
Analytics information is used in aggregate to understand how visitors use this site so we can improve it. It is not used to identify you personally.
Our legal basis for processing
We process your information based on your consent, given when you voluntarily submit the assessment form, and on our legitimate interest in understanding and improving this website for visitors generally.
Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal information. It is shared only where necessary to run this site:
- Google Analytics (Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC) processes website usage data on our behalf.
- Our hosting and email provider (Afrihost, in South Africa) hosts this website and the mailboxes that receive form submissions.
- Google Fonts: this site loads fonts directly from Google’s servers, which means your device’s IP address is sent to Google as part of that request, in the same way it would be for any resource loaded from an external website.
- Assessment form submissions are emailed to our own inbox through our hosting provider’s mail servers. Copies may also be kept in our email system and in the website’s email logs, and are deleted in line with the retention period below. They are not shared with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
Google may process information on servers outside South Africa. We only use providers that publish data protection commitments, and we do not otherwise transfer your information outside South Africa.
Cookies
This site does not run a public comments system, so no comment-related cookies are set. Google Analytics may set cookies to distinguish visitors and measure site usage; you can control or block these through your browser’s own privacy settings.
How long we keep your information
We keep assessment form submissions for up to 12 months after our last contact with you. If you become a client, we keep your details for as long as the client relationship and any legal record-keeping obligations require. After that, they are deleted.
Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, request that we correct inaccurate information, request that we delete your information (subject to any legal record-keeping obligations we may have), and object to our processing of your information. To exercise any of these rights, contact our information officer using the details below.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the personal information we hold, appropriate to its nature and sensitivity.
The Information Regulator
If you believe we have not handled your personal information in line with POPIA, we’d encourage you to contact us directly first so we can try to resolve it. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with South Africa’s Information Regulator:
